CAMPO VULCANO

campo vulcano

Flavio Prà produces his Soave Classico DOC wines in the “Campo Vulcano” or Vulcano field. This is located on the Costeggiola hill, one of the cru of the biggest DOC area of production in Italy. This hill has a predominantly SSW exposure and has some of the highest differences between the temperature high and lows in a period of 24 hours of the entire Soave Classico area with temperatures fluctuating approx 13.5°C between night and day.

The vineyard is planted with a Veronese Pergola training system respecting the tradition of this area. Even though it is in a zone of naturally chalky soils, the Campo Vulcano vineyard is located on a basalt slope with a clayey subsoil with volcanic rocks mixed with chalk at further depths. These are deep soils with good drainage. They are rich in nitrogen and potassium but with less phosphorous and magnesium. These soils produce grapes which have sugar and acid levels which are higher than the average for Soave. Zoning studies have highlighted that these soils are particularly suitable for the cultivation of varieties with aromatic notes of spices and flowers, violets, mature fruits and lightly tropical notes.

One of the most dominant notes in these wines is that of mineral notes and fint. This is an unmistakable characteristic which the terroir gives the wine. The soils of the vineyards in which the Soave Campo Vulcano is produced offer the opportunity to obtain very balanced and harmonious wines.
